State Rep. Richard Curtis, R-La Center, caught up in a statewide media frenzy over an ongoing extortion investigation in Spokane, said Monday that he is not gay.
"I committed no crime," Curtis said Monday afternoon. "I did not solicit sex. I was trying to help somebody out."
Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, spokeswoman for the Spokane Police Department, said police expect to wrap up their investigation in the next one or two days and forward their findings to county prosecutors for a decision on whether criminal charges should be filed.
Curtis, 48, has been besieged by phone calls since news broke about the two-term lawmaker being the alleged victim of an extortion attempt.
The Spokesman-Review newspaper reported Monday that the alleged extortionist is a reputed male prostitute. DeRuwe would not confim that report and said that prostitution did not appear to be involved in the case.
A Spokane TV station, KREM, reported on its Web site that Curtis and the man had a sexual encounter and were seen together at various spots around the city.
Curtis was in the city for a retreat with other Republican lawmakers to craft strategy for the upcoming legislative session.
Curtis talked briefly with Columbian Editor Lou Brancaccio at about 4 p.m. Monday and denied reports of a sexual relationship.
"I am not gay," he told Brancaccio. "I have not had sex with a guy."
Curtis said the case does involve an extortion attempt. He said he would release a statement Tuesday.
"It's been a rough week," he said.
"Look, the rest of this will all come out," he said. "I can't say anything more until I have talked to my attorney. I have never been in this situation before."
Police spokeswoman DeRuwe said she could not discuss how the case came to attention of Spokane police, nor could she provide details about Curtis' relationship with the alleged extortionist because the police investigation is ongoing.
"Obviously there is some sort of relationship between the two of them," she said. "Obviously one of them is a suspect and one is the victim."
More details should become known when court filings are made from two search warrants issued as part of the police investigation. As of Monday afternoon, those documents had not been filed in Spokane County Superior Court.
DeRuwe said police are investigating suspicions of first-degree extortion, a felony.
State law defines extortion as knowingly obtaining or attempting to obtain "by threat property or services of the owner, and specifically includes sexual favors."
DeRuwe declined to say if Curtis was cooperating with investigators, but she did confirm that police have talked to the state lawmaker.
Curtis is a former Vancouver fire captain and La Center City Council member who was elected state representative is 2004 and re-elected in 2006.
State Sen. Joe Zarelli, R-Ridgefield, said he has not heard from Curtis and first heard of the Spokane extortion case from a reporter.
Zarelli said he wasn't "going to jump to any conclusions until I know more," adding that he considers Curtis a friend and his first obligation is to help in any way he can as a friend.
As for dealing with the media scrutiny, Zarelli said he believes Curtis needs to "come say your piece and then do your thing."
State Rep. Jim Moeller, D-Vancouver, one of five openly gay members of the Washington Legislature, said he has never heard any questions about Curtis' sexual orientation.
"Richard appears to be a happily married man to me," he said.

How times have changed. A couple of years ago, there a site put up by someone who called himself TOMMY SOCKS, that was similar to this and other blogs. It's objective was to expose the idiot and get him to shut down, both of which it accomplished. During the run of Tommy Socks, the moron had a fit. He tried on several occasions to shut the site down, spent time with dozens and dozens of mass emails to discover who this guy was. In other words, just went nuts. This time around, with the proliferation of all the anti-Damon sites, he just doesn't seem to care anymore. This is very depressing. He's learning to live with all this. The new one above is pretty funny and, like all the other, accurate. But it's disturbing that he doesn't seem to care. Has he lost his fighting spirit? When was the last time he went loony over Tyler Roberts, or Mark Adams, or Billy Masters? There has only been a breif reference to David Forest, and even his former buddy Paul Baressi has disappeared from his site. The only one left of the old gang is Brad Slater, who is either oblivious to all this, or is just plain nuts himself. Poor Kentie. The spirit has left him.

Just imagine how Kent-NG must feel. He was going to ride Bryan Kocis's death to stardom. After all he had a man he actually talked too who was dead and he could tell all kinds of lies and the man was dead he could not respond. First he was supposed to be given Cobra in the will. Then it was that he turned down a badly worded will, of course he never produced the will or the lawyer that wrote it but needless to say he never got Cobra. Then all the lies about putting Windows Vista on Bryan Kocis's computers as after all he was a college professor. All lies. Then he cons one young reporter into putting his voice on the air and he think this is it I am on my way. Then the reporter finds out Kent-NG is a fraud and won't take his calls anymore, and never mentioned him again. The poor reporter got raked over the coals for using a picture of Kent-NG that he did not verify and was a fake. Then Kent-NG was going to be the centerpiece of the case and all the stories about it. He was never mentioned. Everyone he talked too within hours had the Truth Squad provide them with verifiable proof of his crimes and when they listened to Detective Lucheeze tape they realized that he was a nutcase and all stopped talking to him. He was wrong on just about everything he said and became a laughing stock where he was not being looked at for things like mail fraud, impersonating a private detective, trying to manufacture false evidence in a murder case, and just every lie he has told. Remember the going to testify for the defense? Or visiting Harlow and Joe in Jail? Or going to events where no one sees him? He has just plain told too many lies and they have caught up with him. He is in legal jeopardy now and is trying to lay low... But guess what? it won't work. His big shot at the big time was a dud. All trying to stand in the light got him was more people seeing a lying, forging, thieving, mother abusing fraud. I left out Asshole but I will leave that word for his few helpers... He is toast and as we speak is waiting for that knock on the door...

Yes, Partially, Yves has a lot of stamina. Doing what he (and others) do to warn others about the moron is not an easy task. It can wear you down, which is the idiot's goal. Just when you think "Aha, I've really got him this time," he bounces back. It can be frustrating. But Yves perseveres. The lack of Luezer postings may make you think, "Well, this time, maybe he's gone for good," but he's just resting up, whether it be on Barbara's futon in the living room, or even in some kind of mental factility, which I am convinced he goes to every once in a while when he realizes he is out of control.

That in itself is a good thing, for as far as I'm concerned, that is the purpose of all this: to inform and educate the industry that ANY dealings with this idiot is counter-productive, and will, in the long run, cause more drama than anyone needs. The way I look at it is...if David Forest can finally realize that giving in to the Luezer's blackmail just doesn't work, than anyone can realize it. I've always thought that, no matter what is said on sites similar to this about DAMON, most of it goes right over his balding head with the bad combover. Every once in a while, something strikes a nerve with him and he goes off on one of his smelly-cunt raves, but, for the most part, he just doesn't care. In fact, I would guess that, as of late, he is not reading ANY of this, whether it be Yves or DK Scum, or any of the others. This could be taken as an indication that all this IS bothering him. He may just figure that, by not reading any of this, it just doesn't exist. But the bottom line is, it DOES exist and it is working. Years ago, the thought in the industry was generally, "Ignore him and he will go away." At last, after a grueling 10 years or more, light has finally dawned, and there is the realization that this does not work. I doubt if there are many (excluding very newbies) that are not aware of his antics. Just look at his site now as compared to even a year ago. Aside from people like Angel, Brad Slater and Jeff Palmer (and, of course, the Cobra thing), there are no big names and/or pics on his site. He knows that if he puts up ANY pics, he will get cease and desists, and they immediately are taken down.
So, in the this long-winded response to your question, VJ, I would have to say...yes, this is working. At some point, when he has no one to turn to and no one to write about because he knows they will not respond, he'll either move on or just silently steal away, back to the Benelux countries.

It's possible - not likely, but still possible - that we are wearing him down. Or he is on some new meds. But there is a noticeable difference over the past couple of weeks as compared to the last ten years. He could be planning another "sabbatical."

You can on actual websites with Meta tags, but I dont think there is a setting on blogroll or the google version to do that. the only solution would be to set up an actual site. He has pulled this crap before with various meta tags. If you notice on his site currently, if you look at the very top of the browser in the blue line, it still says "October" on his site, and his links still all go to his email address, so I have a feeling that he did not set anything so that a google search brings up that particular item. HE is nowhere near as computer-savvy as he likes to think. I know practically nothing about this, and I still know 100% more than he does. Perhaps someone with tech knowledge can be more helpful here.
